Italian Nougat (Torrone)

Homemade Italian nougat, or Torrone, is a delightful treat perfect for holidays and special occasions. Customize it with various nuts and flavors for a unique dessert experience.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Honey
  • 1 cup Sugar
  • 3 large Egg Whites
  • 1 cup Almonds
  • 1/2 cup Pistachios
  • 1/2 cup Hazelnuts
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 1 sheet Edible Wafer Paper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Toast the nuts on a baking sheet for about 10 minutes until golden brown.
  3. In a saucepan, combine honey and sugar, stirring until dissolved.
  4. Bring the mixture to a boil without stirring until it reaches 240°F (115°C).
  5. Whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
  6. Gradually pour the hot syrup into the whipped egg whites while mixing continuously.
  7. Fold in the toasted nuts and vanilla extract.
  8. Line a baking dish with edible wafer paper and pour in the nougat mixture.
  9. Cover with another sheet of wafer paper and let cool completely.
  10. Once set, cut into bite-sized pieces and serve.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for several weeks. For added protection in humid environments, wrap nougat in wax paper before placing in a container.
